The Right to Know What the Law is Today

Yay!!! I have the right to own a gun. Yippee!!! Unfortunately the road to that "right" had some potholes. Like another 5-4 decision that means anyone with a reasonably sharp brain is going to figure out in a pretty quick hurry that the rule of law in this country is not a consistent continuum, altered only when circumstances require the recognition of some new technology or material change in the way life is lived by the people, but rather a shifting dune in the sands of time whose shifts are dictated by the philosophy of the current president packing the court with his idealogical clones. Objectivity. Overrated. Stare Decisis. Not when it stands in the way of the conservative agenda. Consistency. The hobgoblin of liberal minds.

The last Supreme Court decision dealing with this issue was in 1939, 69 years ago. Decent staying power for Coolidge, Wilson, Hoover and Roosevelt, who appointed the Court that decided it. The next one on the Second Amendment may not come for another 70.

So on November 4, when you reach up to pull that lever for President of the United States, just remember he will be gone in 8 years, but his justices won't.
